Kayaking Antelope Canyon – What to know:
Details
- Where: On Lake Powell through the world-famous Antelope Canyon located in the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area.
- When: Times change with the season. Click “Book Now” to see times and availability!
- Check-In: 45 minutes prior to your start time at our Store Location. You will then drive to the launching area to meet your guide.
- What is Provided: Kayak, life jacket (PFD), paddle, dry bag, splash gear in colder season.
- What to Wear: Please come dressed and ready for your activity and be prepared to get wet. Sturdy sandals, water shoes or sneakers are all appropriate footwear. Layers to help keep you warm or cool (check the weather). Sunscreen, hat, & sun-protective clothing. Swimsuit in warmer months.
- What to Bring: Snacks, water/electrolyte drink, camera and an adventurous attitude!
- Timezone: There are two timezones in our area. Save yourself some confusion and add Phoenix to your world clock or turn off your Date & Time to set automatically and manually set the timezone to Phoenix upon arrival. Check the current time here!
Important Info
- Our Antelope Canyon Kayak Tours are recommended for a medium level of fitness. The first and last mile of the tour can be choppy waters. Due to changes in water levels throughout the season, there may be a sandy hill to get down to the water.
- No children under the age of 6 are permitted on our tours. Children ages 6-12 are prohibited from paddling a kayak or paddleboard on their own.
- Tours are subject to weather. Wind can make paddling challenging and can be common in the afternoon in our area.
- We do not provide transportation to the launching area. During check in at our shop location we provide you with a map and directions on where to meet your guide.
- The launching area is located in the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. There is a $30 entry fee, unless you have an America the Beautiful Pass, which will give you free entry.
- Our kayaks have manufacturer-rated maximum weight capacities. However, for optimal stability and performance, we recommend that the combined weight of paddlers and their gear not exceed 70% of the kayak’s maximum capacity. Our double kayaks have a 550 lb maximum capacity, we recommend keeping the total load at 350 lbs or less. Single kayaks maximum capacity is 330 lbs, recommended total load is 230 lbs. We typically use double kayaks for our guided tours. If you have questions about weight limits or kayak assignments, just let us know—we’ll match your group with the most appropriate kayak configuration for comfort, stability, and performance.

Famous for its extraordinary twisting corridors and striking formations such as fins, stalactites, and various speleothems, Antelope Canyon spans around 30 miles and is divided into four key sections. These sections include the well-known Upper and Lower Antelope Canyons and the less frequented Canyon X and Secret Antelope Canyon.
Formed over thousands of years by the forces of seasonal floods and wind, the canyon’s slender pathways stretch several hundred feet from its entrance. Lake Powell, a man-made reservoir located on the Colorado River, is a key attraction nestled along the Utah-Arizona border. This artificial lake, resulting from the Glen Canyon Dam flooding Glen Canyon, is an integral component of the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area.
Celebrated as an idyllic destination for those seeking outdoor adventures and a connection with nature, Lake Powell is the United States’ second-largest artificial reservoir. It covers an expansive area of 653 square kilometers with a depth reaching up to 177.6 meters, and has the capacity to hold about 31,041 million cubic meters of water.
Each year, roughly two million visitors are captivated by Lake Powell’s extensive waters and picturesque landscape, making it a favored spot for both adventure and relaxation.
All our tour guides are professionally certified through the American Canoe Association (ACA) and the Professional Stand Up Paddle Association (PSUPA) for instruction, guiding, and water-safety. Each guide is first aid and CPR certified. Lake Powell Paddleboards and Kayaks holds a legal CUA Permit with Glen Canyon National Park Service.
